Somali Myrrha Oil

Common name: Myrrh
Botanical name: Commiphora Myrrha
Grew up in East Africa and the Middle East.
The oil is extracted from the resin (dark brown shade) through water-steam distillation.
Yields about 5% essential oil.
It’s yellow to brown.
A slightly thick texture (depending on the resin).

Many opinions (in which Maimonides) identify the biblical Myrrh with the Myrrh’s resin.
The Myrrh served as an important ingredient in the ointment oil and in the incense of the temple.
